We have a vacation home close by and we are lucky. We eat here regularly because it is an excellent restaurant! Great food, great friendly staff, the bar tenders are attentive and friendly and really good at making drinks, the atmosphere is excellent and the owner is a really great guy...he is always working hard to accommodate customers. We were there last night, I had the Ribeye Steak...perfectly cooked to my request, and very excellent taste. Some other members of my group had the ribs (reported they were great) and the filet. I have had the walleye....it was excellent.....and the prime rib...also excellent. The cheese curds are a great appetizer and we almost always order those at the bar before sitting down to dinner. The twice baked potato is one of the best potatoes I've had in a restaurant. The staff is so great and the food is so great....we would highly, highly recommend the Bear Trap!

We have been coming here for the last 15 years..... could I really be the first to review this "sure thing"? Maybe I shouldn't let all of you know about this secret delight as there are only 8 tables in the dining room.... and maybe 15 seats at the bar. Shhh.... don't tell anyone :) Friday fish fry..... walleye... real honest to goodness fresh caught walleye. Served with potato pancakes and a supper club sized serving tray of tarter sauce, apple sauce & sour cream. If you can get past that- try the garlic stuffed tenderloin and add a cold water lobster tail. I am NOT a fan of lobster, but this makes me a convert. Elizabeth (the owners daughter) & Reggie serve up about a dozen different styles of "Old Fashioned" a North Woods staple. Try the cherry style made with Old Stag, or add some brandy to your whisky sweet. Of course a trip would not be complete without trying the "Shrimp Wreck" a bloody mary with enough shrimp & pickled garnish to be called an appetizer. Sweet tooth? Try the Bear Trapeze, a vodka lemonade that goes down way too smoothly... make sure you have a designated driver. If you are in the North Woods go here..... it is right off the snowmobile trail. The trail to the trap is always bump-free and lots off fun!

The best hash browns I have ever had in my life. Very fresh non frozen. The eggs we're also very good. All in all really good breakfast for not a lot of money! Definitely recommend this place to go and eat!

Make a reservation on a Friday night! We did not. The hostess told us it would be a 20-30 minute wait for two. That wait turned into 2 hours... The drinks are strong. Delicious.. but beware. We ordered quickly, upon ordering they were out of the appetizer we had our hearts set on 2 hours ago... Our food was good not great. The waitress was okay. She never corrected our bill from our original order. Overall.. the quality and service wasn't worth the $100 bill.

Our 5 member snowmobile group absoluely LOVED this place. We have been to the area every year for the last ten years to snowmobile for a week. This year was the first time we've been to the Bear Trap. I think we've been to most every other restaurant within 50 miles in every direction. Most are good. Some are great but folks, this one simply sits at the top of the list! The food is superb! Our group ordered the pork schnitzel (two of us), garlic stuffed filet mignon, plain filet mignon and a strip steak. Each of us was extremely impressed with the quality and taste of the food and unanimously agreeded this chef has some very serious high end talent. When you find a really good chef vs. a good cook......you know it. That chef is right here! The pork schnitzel and garlic stuffed filet have to be experienced. No description could suffice. These dishes have no match anywhere! Service was pleasant and attentive too. We'll go back again and hope this chef can do it all this good again.

This place is GREAT! We vacation in the area and always manage at least one dinner at the Bear Trap because it's so good. The garlic stuffed tenderloin is so good! At other restaurants we always order two different entrees and share, but never here. Great staff, great bar, great atmosphere. We've hosted birthday parties here and everyone walks out full and contented. Try it!!!!!

My final dining stop in Land O'Lakes (who knew it wasn't just a brand of butter?) was an overall good one at the Bear Trap Inn. The setup makes for a very comfy, homey feel with a foyer followed by an oval-shaped bar. The bartender serves as host as well. Bonus: He's dressed all in black and his voice sounds exactly the same as when people are on the news but they don't want you to know who they are so they disguise their voice and turn off all the lights when they do the interview. So they got that going for them. The clam chowder was very good; the clam didn't have any of that grit you can sometimes get in a mediocre chowdah. I had the salmon, which was fabulous. I did not care for the lemon dill "sauce," as it was far too strong and the salmon was tender and seasoned so well that it was unnecessary anyway. Entrees come with a choice of two plentiful and varied sides. I went with the aforementioned chowder and mashed sweet potatoes with caramel sauce. Ah-may-zing! The sauce is served hot, too, and the metal ramekin it's served in helps keep it warm while you patiently tuck into your salmon (nice touch). Sadly the service was not on the same level and therein lies the loss of a star. Sam started out well enough, but she first brought me the wrong soup but didn't realize it until she was setting it on the table. She then left to bring me the soup I ordered; several minutes later she admitted that she screwed up and the soup she originally told me about was yesterday's soup and not available. That lead me to believe that she was hoping I would take the wrong soup initially when she brought it to me. All of this was minor, and as I said before, the chowder was good. However it took an inordinate amount of time to get me the right soup and it almost seemed as though she figured I was upset about the soup and phoned in the rest of the night. Voice Scramble Bartender brought me my food because she was at the bar on her cell phone when the order came up and wrapping up the meal took 15 minutes longer than it should have. I could see taking your time if there's a group enjoying drinks and conversation, but I was there by myself and it shouldn't take 10 minutes to run a credit card. So if you have a little time, stop over to the Bear Trap Inn, the food was great!

This is a much needed vacation from the standard northwoods fried food fare! We had perfectly cooked steaks, along with wonderful service, a small but delicious portion of French onion soup and a hearty salad. Thank you Bear Trap for a great dinner to close out our vacation! We will be back!

Best meal of my vacation was here, and my vote for best in the north woods! We had the ribeye and the walleye and both were perfect. The best part was that the whole menu looked so good it was hard to choose. We'll have to come back again!

We happened to find this place while on vacation 2 summers ago. To this day, I crave the rib eye I had. I like my steak rare to medium, more on the rare side. The first steak that came out was over cooked. The waitress insisted on re-firing it, even though I told her it was okay. She brought back the most perfect piece of meat I had ever had. Charred on the outside, and rare in the middle. The quality and taste of the steak was out of this world!! While waiting for a table, we sat out in the gazebo and talked with other vacationers and sipped on cocktails. I had the Bear Trapeze, and I'm pretty sure I had another one. This drink is amazing!! If you don't have one, you are missing out on a sliver of heaven. Even though the description says it's not good for kids, there were plenty of kids in the place. My 4 young children were made to feel welcome. While its not a McDonald's, and like any nice establishment if your children mind their manners and aren't bothersome, I think you would be okay with bringing your children. I cannot wait to make another trip up north and go here.

We dined here last night and, unfortunately did not have a good experience. The place was very busy and we were greeted very warmly and seated quickly by a very friendly, charming hostess. There were 4 adults and two children in our party. Apparently, the waitress was new and not very confident. She was unable to answer any questions about the many beers or menu items. Probably, some training was in order here. The salads were served and then about 20 minutes later bread was delivered. The Cesar salad had too much dressing and no croutons, the roasted red pepper soup was very bland and flavorless. About an hour later, our main dishes were served. They were very busy, so we would have forgiven them for this if the food was good. However, my husband had cedar planked salmon, which was overcooked and dry. I had whitefish almondine and it was flavorless. My daughter in law ordered. Chicken tenders and fries, no fries were delivered and she received 2-1/2 tiny, dried up tenders. The kids meals came with applesauce, we had to ask the waitress to bring spoons. No ketchup offerred, no butter offerred for the baked potatoes. At that point we sought out the manager and he quickly brought out things like butter and ketchup and tried to make things better. He also said he'd have a couple more chicken tenders and the fries delivered. Right before the food was delivered, one of our paty ordered a second drink. We proceeded to eat and after another 1/2 hour or so when most of us were done eating, the second drink came. About 5 minutes later, the waitress brought additional chicken tenders. The manager took the drink price off the bill and then offered us some tokens for free drinks on our next visit. We declined the tokens, as we would not be willing to come back.

New owner and I found the stuffed filet was no longer stuffed but it was cooked properly. Service was fine and the cute bartenders were fun! Steak was a bit chewy and the price was high for what you get so a star is lost.

First stop since new owners. Excellent walleye almondine and schnitzel. Spaetzle was deep fried and not the way we like it but was tasty. Wine inexpensive but good. 'Tres leches' dessert very good and light enough to be eaten after full meal. It was a Mon night and we were the only diners until we left at 6:30. We'll go back.
